Graph Manifolds Z-homology 3-spheres and Taut Foliations

We show that a graph manifold which is a Z-homology 3-sphere not homeomorphic to either S or Σ(2, 3, 5) admits a horizontal foliation. This combines with known results to show that the conditions of not being an L-space, of having a left-orderable fundamental group, and of admitting a co-oriented taut foliation, are equivalent for graph manifold Z-homology 3-spheres.

HX-hypergroups associated with the direct products of some ${bf Z}/n {bf Z}$

One studies the $HX$-hypergroups, corresponding to the Chinese hypergroups associated with the direct products of some ${bf Z}/n {bf Z},$ calculating their fuzzy grades.

An Unoriented Skein Exact Triangle for Knot Floer Homology

Given a crossing in a planar diagram of a link in the three-sphere, we show that the knot Floer homologies of the link and its two resolutions at that crossing are related by an exact triangle. As a consequence, we deduce that for any quasi-alternating link, the total rank of its knot Floer homology is equal to the determinant of the link.

Curvature and Characteristic Numbers of Hyper-kähler Manifolds

Characteristic numbers of compact hyper-Kähler manifolds are expressed in graphtheoretical form, considering them as a special case of the curvature invariants introduced by L. Rozansky and E. Witten. The appropriate graphs are generated by “wheels,” and the recently proved Wheeling theorem is used to give a formula for the L 2-norm of the curvature of an irreducible hyper-Kähler manifold in te...

Transversality for Homology Manifolds

Transversality phenomena are studied for homology manifolds. For homology manifolds X, Y and Z, with Z embedded in Y with a neighborhood ν(Z) which has a given bundle structure, we define a map f : X → Y to be transverse to Z, if f−1(Z) = Z′ is a homology manifold, the neighborhood f−1(ν(Z)) has a bundle structure given by f∗ν(Z) and f induces the bundle map. In the case where the range is a ma...
